Comparing the 2026 Subaru EV Lineup

COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE 2026 SUBARU EV LINEUP

Three electric SUVs. Three different missions. Here is how the Subaru Uncharted, Trailseeker, and Solterra stack up for Hudson Valley drivers.

Subaru just tripled down on electric for 2026. For the first time, drivers in the Hudson Valley have three distinct Subaru EVs to consider, each one purpose-built for a different kind of life. The smallest and most affordable, the all-new Uncharted, starts at $34,995 and aims squarely at commuters and city drivers. The new Trailseeker brings 375 horsepower and 8.5 inches of ground clearance for serious adventurers. The refreshed Solterra, the model that started Subaru's EV story, comes back with significantly more range and a new XT trim.

At Ruge's Subaru in Rhinebeck, NY, we work with drivers from across Dutchess County, Ulster County, and the broader Hudson Valley who are weighing the move to electric. The questions we hear most often are about range, cargo capacity, charging speed, and how each model fits into a real four-season driving life in upstate New York. This guide breaks down all three 2026 Subaru EVs side by side so you can see exactly where each one shines and which one belongs in your driveway.

EVs At A Glance

2026 SUBARU UNCHARTED | COMPACT, FWD OPTION

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted is the brand's first compact electric crossover and the new entry point to the Subaru EV lineup. It starts at $34,995 for the Premium FWD (yes, FWD) trim and tops out at $45,245 for the GT, with a Sport trim slotted in between at $39,795.

What sets the Uncharted apart is its dual personality. The Premium FWD is a single-motor, front-wheel-drive setup that prioritizes efficiency, producing 221 horsepower from a 74.7 kWh battery and an estimated range of more than 300 miles. Step up to the Sport or GT and you get dual motors, standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 338 horsepower, and a 0 to 60 mph time of less than 5 seconds. The tradeoff is range: AWD trims come in around 285 to 290 miles.

Physically, the Uncharted is the smallest of the three. It measures 177.7 inches long, 73.6 inches wide, and 63.8 inches tall, with a 108.3-inch wheelbase. Ground clearance is 8.2 inches, which is impressive for a vehicle this size. Cargo space is competitive at roughly 25 cubic feet behind the rear seats and around 60 cubic feet with the second row folded.

Every Uncharted comes with a 14-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port that unlocks the Tesla Supercharger network, and battery preconditioning for fast charging in cold Hudson Valley winters. DC fast charging takes the battery from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes!

"For commuters running between Rhinebeck, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie, the Uncharted hits a real sweet spot of price, range, and Subaru capability."

2026 SUBARU TRAILSEEKER | ADVENTURE & CAPABILITY

If the Uncharted is the daily driver, the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is the trailhead vehicle. It is the largest and most capable Subaru EV ever built, and it starts at $39,995 for the Premium trim. The Limited runs $43,995, the Touring is $46,555, and the Touring with Leather tops out at $46,855.

Power is the headline figure here. The Trailseeker comes standard with dual motors producing a combined 375 horsepower, which makes it the quickest-accelerating Subaru ever sold! Subaru claims a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.3 seconds. Range lands at an estimated 281 miles on the Premium and 274 miles on the Limited.

The Trailseeker sits more than 6 inches longer than the Solterra and nearly an inch taller, with 8.5 inches of ground clearance. That gives you 32.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which Subaru notes is enough for four large suitcases and comparable to the gas-powered 2026 Outback. Roof rails are standard and rated for a 700-pound static load. Towing capacity is 3,500 pounds, which is enough for a small camper, a pair of jet skis, or a utility trailer.

Off-road tech is the other big differentiator. Every Trailseeker comes with X-MODE Dual-Mode with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, Grip Control, and Downhill Assist Control. Pair that with the 8.5 inches of ground clearance and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and you have a vehicle that can actually handle backroads in the Catskills, snowy driveways in Tivoli, and trailhead access for hikes near Minnewaska! Charging matches the Uncharted: NACS port, 150 kW DC fast charging, and cold-weather battery preconditioning.

2026 SUBARU SOLTERRA | | THE OG, REFRESHED

The 2026 Solterra is a comprehensive refresh of Subaru's first EV, and it gets significant upgrades over the outgoing 2025 model. Pricing starts at $38,495 for the Premium and runs through five trims: Limited ($41,395), Limited XT ($42,895), Touring XT ($45,555), and Touring XT Leather ($45,855). Subaru reports the new Solterra costs $4,000 less than the first year model while delivering more than 25% additional range.

Range improvements are the biggest story. Standard Solterra trims now deliver up to 288 miles per charge with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive standard, and the new XT trim adds 338 horsepower and a 4.9-second 0 to 60 time with up to 278 miles of range. Charging from 10% to 80% takes about 28 minutes on a DC fast charger.

The Solterra slots between the Uncharted and Trailseeker in size at 184.6 inches long, 73.2 inches wide, and 65 inches tall, with 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Cargo capacity is 23.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats and expands to 63.5 cubic feet with the seats folded.

Inside, every 2026 Solterra now gets a 14-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual 15-watt wireless chargers, and a full suite of EyeSight driver-assistance features. A 120-volt outlet is available in the cargo area on Limited trims and above, which is genuinely useful for tailgates, jobsites, or weekend camping.

WHAT ALL THREE SUBARU EVS SHARE

Before getting deeper into the differences, it helps to know what every 2026 Subaru EV brings to the table.

All three feature the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, which gives you access to more than 25,000 Tesla Superchargers in addition to the broader CCS network through adapters. All three support DC fast charging at speeds up to 150 kW, with battery preconditioning that maintains charging speed in cold weather, which matters when you are plugging in during a Rhinebeck winter. All three come with a 14-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a comprehensive EyeSight Driver Assistance suite that includes pre-collision braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, and blind spot monitoring. And every model except the Uncharted Premium FWD comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

WHICH 2026 SUBARU EV IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

The honest answer depends on what you actually drive. Here is how we frame it at Ruge's Subaru when customers come in undecided.

Choose the Uncharted if your priorities are price, range, and a smaller footprint. The Premium FWD trim at $34,995 with more than 300 miles of range is the most affordable way into a Subaru EV, and the AWD Sport and GT trims still come in well under the Trailseeker for buyers who want all-wheel drive in a smaller, sportier package. Great fit for a single commuter, a couple, or a small family that does not regularly haul or tow.

Choose the Trailseeker if you actually use the capability. The 375 horsepower, 8.5 inches of ground clearance, 3,500-pound tow rating, and 32.2 cubic feet of cargo space are the kind of numbers that pay off when you tow a boat, haul gear, or live somewhere with steep driveways and unmaintained roads. For Hudson Valley drivers who use their Subaru the way Subarus get used in this region, the Trailseeker is the obvious answer.

Choose the Solterra if you want the longest-tested platform in the Subaru EV lineup at a midrange price point. The 2026 refresh fixed the original Solterra's range problem, and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with X-MODE makes it a strong four-season vehicle for commuters who do not need the Trailseeker's extra room or towing capability. The new XT trim is a particularly good sweet spot for buyers who want extra power without moving up a model.
