Ready to embrace your wilder side and explore paths barely traveled? As your Subaru dealer in Rhinebeck, we feel compelled to show you all that the 2026 Outback has to offer. We know that if you're after an SUV that can do it all, the Outback will meet and even exceed your expectations.

When you start exploring the 2026 Outback lineup, you're going to have some choices to make. Subaru has created several distinct, equally impressive trims for the 2026 model year. Their unique features aren't always obvious at first glance, which is why we're going to cover some of the stand-out features that might not pop out at you right away.

We want to make sure you drive off in the Outback that is suited for whatever journeys you have planned. So, today, we're going over how to order the most capable, road-trip-ready 2026 Outback! Here are features we think you should consider if you have big adventures ahead.

Dual-Function X-Mode

Before we get into Dual-function X-Mode, we'll go over standard X-Mode, which you'll get on all Outback models. X-Mode optimizes the SUV's already legendary AWD for even more traction on slippery surfaces. Dual-function X-Mode (which comes standard on the Wilderness trim) takes things a step further.

Dual-function X-Mode turns up the traction, allowing you to tell your vehicle what sort of ground you're exploring. You can indicate snow, dirt, deep snow, or mud, and your Outback Wilderness will automatically adjust certain dynamics to help you command the exact terrain you're covering.

If you plan on traveling far, far from the paved streets of Rhinebeck into territory that might involve messy, wet, muddy, and overall challenging ground, you'll probably want Dual-function X-Mode.

Newly Available Hands-Free Assist

When your destination is many miles away, it's easy to get tired behind the wheel. Countless little maneuvers have a way of exhausting even the most adventurous drivers. That's why the available hands-free assist is a nice touch. You can get this feature standard on the Touring and Touring XT models, and it takes over certain functions for you.

On speeds up to 85 mph, Hands-Free Assist can steer for you on most highways in the US. Just be sure to keep your eyes on the road, and monitor your digital instrument cluster—it will show you details about the system's status.

When you do a lot of driving, it can be nice to take a break from steering and let Hands-Free Assist take over.

The Power Moonroof

This feature is more about enhancing the vibe than performance, but what is the Outback all about if not good vibes? The power moonroof features a power tilt/sliding function, allowing you to let the outside in as much or as little as you want. Slide it open partially or just tilt it for a light breeze. Retract it completely for a fully refreshing cabin experience.

When the panel is shut, it boasts a 95 percent UV light-reducing material. So it can protect your SUV's occupants from sun damage. When you decide you want a dark cabin, or the sun feels too warm, you can just close the shade.

We love the moonroof for road trippers, because it lets your passengers enjoy a comprehensive view of your surroundings before you even park. So your travel companions can take in the beautiful pine and oak trees, towering over your vehicle in Mills Norrie State Park, or just enjoy a starry night sky on the open road. This feature is standard on the Limited and higher trims.

Serious Ground Clearance

If you're worried about boulders or fallen branches scraping up the bottom of your Outback, you'll be in good shape in just about any Outback — it's known for its solid ground clearance. However, if you want the highest available, you'll find that in the Wilderness trim. The Wilderness model enjoys 9.5 inches of ground clearance, so it can tackle the trails.

Standard front underbody protection complements that serious ground clearance. So even when something does manage to make contact with your undercarriage, important components will remain protected.

Electronically Controlled Dampers

This is another feature you'll find on the Wilderness trim. And when you're traveling on bumpy terrain, you're going to want it. These electronically controlled dampers adjust your vehicle's stiffness. And that means that inside, turbulence won't feel quite so turbulent. They also reduce body roll for more stability on unpredictable paths.

The dampers' adaptive behavior allows them to re-adjust stiffness when you return to paved, smooth roads. So wherever you're driving, nobody in your cabin will feel tossed around.

Built-in Navigation and TomTom

Even though the Outback has smartphone connectivity, there might just be times when you lose service. Hey, some of the best wilderness destinations have the worst cell service and very few (if any) Internet towers. So, how are you supposed to find your way to that trailhead with no bars? Built-in navigation, which you'll get on the Touring and higher trims.

The navigation system relies on GPS instead of Wi-Fi. So you'll still find your way, even if you lose service. Plus, it's voice-activated, meaning you can just speak to it when you need to pull up directions, leaving your hands safely on the wheel.

Having TomTom is a nice touch, too, because it gives you reports on things like accidents, congestion, roadblocks, and hazards. So you can adjust your route based on real-time information.

Harman Kardon Premium Audio System

No great road trip is complete without an epic playlist! And, you need an epic sound system to match it. On the Limited trim and above, you'll get the Harman Kardon premium audio system. Known for its high-fidelity, cabin-filling sound, the Harman Kardon sound system will make you feel like you're at a live concert or sitting in the studio with your favorite podcasters.

When you and your buddies are too tired from your trek to talk, you'll also enjoy listening to an audiobook on this sound system. Storylines come to life with a sound system this premium.
